Done forever

I will be graduating college on Friday. I am the first person in my family to gradute from college so my family is making a big deal about it which is mildly annoying. My older sister told me she cant come because she has to work but I think she doesnt want to come because I followed through with my plan to graduate and she did not. Regardless I am graduating and I am ready to be done with Nebraska.

Stress, stress, and more stress

Let me first start by saying I have become obsessed. My hands get sweaty when I am around it, my heart starts racing, and my face turns red. I am constantly thinking about it and therefore freaking out and wondering what it could possibly be doing now.
"It" refers to my grades, the last grades I will ever receive in my entire life. I have never been one that gets really nervous when grades are beginning to be posted but my mind has taken over my body and all I do is check my blackboard and subsequently recalculate my gpa. I am pathetic.

Oh and finals week stress is still kicking my butt.

Movies

So this semester I have seen more movies that I have in any other semester in my life. My boyfriend likes to watch them I guess so he thinks it is a good past time. Well this semester I have seen Confessions of a Shopaholic, Marley and Me, Slumdog Millionaire, State of Play, Taken, and some other movie with Leo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe (cant remember the name I wasn't into watching a movie at all that night). Anyway so I am all movied out but I thought I would look back and see if any of them were actually worth it.
So far I would say Slumdog Millionaire was totally worth it. The movie had a lot going on and knowing the background of it made me want to see it.
State of Play. Interesting since I am kind of into journalism (I hate writing news stories however). Political thriller not too bad.
But the best one was Taken. I was dragged along to the movie with my boyfriend and one of his best friends as well as one of mine (yes HE had a genius idea that they should date, I bet you can guess how that turned out), but anyway it was soo good. The previews didn't even begin to tell you what was going to happen in that movie. Definitely one to see this year.

Dead Week

So I hear it every year and I dread the week before finals no matter how much I have going on because it sucks every time. I am in my last semester at UNK and ready to get out of here and have a little break before I find a job. Dead week is kicking my butt this year. It is called dead week because it is supposed to be a little break before finals week, at least that is what the rumor is every year. Well turns out the only thing about the week that can be proven is that teachers are not allowed to assign any new week that wasn't on the syllabus since the beginning of the semester. So generally what I get out of dead week is the fact that all projects, papers, stories, and anything possible is due this week. Thats cool if my major wasnt communications and therefore all I do it projects, papers, and stories. I have one test during finals week....ONE. But I have a million and one things to do this week. AHHHHHH I needed that little venting session, much appreciated and I'm sure any student would agree Dead Week=Hell Week.

Daisy of Love premiered tonight and one of my favorite reality shows of the moment is Tough Love. I am a sucker for trashy reality television like I Love New York and Rock of Love. But I miss my favorite the Girls Next Door with Holly, Bridget, and Kendra who were all dating Hugh Hefner. It was such a good show and I loved it but it ended horribly. Not one of the girls is dating him anymore and Holly last I knew was dating Criss Angel, Bridget is dating a movie producer, and Kendra is engaged to a sports player. It is depressing and the final episode was so sad but Tough Love is beginning to fill that void I had with Girls Next Door.

Tough Love is hilarious. Pretty much the show is women with different relationship problems are given some tough love from a match maker (and he is super hot fyi). But anyway it is good so check it out sometime, on VH1.

Rule the World

As I sit here still jobless and graduating in May I began to think of all my college friends that don't have jobs as well. So then I began thinking that we could pretty much live on an island and rule it. With all the people that we know in our lives that have different skills you could run a business, a town, or even an island. As I have said before I went to Chicago and our morning routine began with a trip down the block to the Corner Bakery to start planning the days activity. Every since I left I have been wanting Corner Bakery breakfast bad, so then I started thinking of my college friends and all I am missing in the equation is the rich friend who can afford to take over the Starbucks and franchise it into the Corner Bakery this town needs. I would have an HR person, managers, PR person, and a lot of people to be the waitstaff. I think it is legit and it would feed my craving, and need for a job :)

Life

I recently heard a commercial when I was doing homework. I think it was for fast food or something but the message was that a paycheck doesn't last as long as the month. Well that got me thinking, as of right now I do not have a job ready after graduation. I mean I have a job here but not in my field and not what I want to do for much longer. I used to be so excited for a nine to five job, because honestly I would have more time than I have now. I work 20-30 hours per week, take 22 credit hours worth of class, in a sorority, and have friends and a boyfriend. TOO MUCH to say the least. I love what I have done this year and wouldn't trade it but only working nine to five would be a nice break, especially because I will be making more than the normal wage I receive now. I don't like that this commercial had me start thinking about money and problems because I have funded my college career and pay for all my expenses, needless to say when I graduate I will be hit with some sweet bills with no back up to help me out. Money, money, money...why cant I be a trust fund baby ha.

Polar Bear Plunge

Have you ever heard of a polar bear plunge? Well basically it is generally a fundraiser where people jump into a freezing lake, pond, body of water to raise money for a cause. Well it is called a polar bear plunge because the people jump into freezing water just like a polar bear would.

Well the whole point of calling it a polar bear plunge is to make a joke because obviously no one would jump into freezing water with a polar bear. I retract that last statement because at the Berlin Zoo a women did just that, jumped into the exhibit during FEEDING TIME. Well needless to say she was attacked and had suffered severe injuries.

She got a ticket for trespassing and they don't have a reason as to why she jumped in. I doubt she does as well. Wow is all I have to say about this one.

Marley and Me

I got Notebooked. Except really I got Marley(ed) and Me. At work all the girls were discussing the idea that the movie Marley and Me is the new "date" movie, as in the movie a boy or girl asks you to watch for the sole purpose of making you emotional so they can bank on the idea that they are sensitive.
Well tonight I watched Marley and Me with two boys and one other girl. Since I previously knew the outcome of the movie I was confident in the idea that I would be alright. Well wrong. I cried like a little girl who dropped her ice cream cone on the cement. I am however confident in the idea that my boyfriend will never ask me to watch a sentimental movie again for fear that I will turn into the blubbering mess I was just 5 minutes ago, with makeup running down my face.

Anyway so this is kinda a start to my column/review due in class coming up.

Singing

I'll be the first to admit I can not sing at all. I sound horrible and I am able to recognize that therefore refrain from doing so.

I wish I could say the same about some celebrities. Heidi Montag and Ryan Gosling should not sing. A recent track of Heidi was leaked online before it could be edited, mainly in the chorus she says "f*cking" a few times and I guess she is marketing herself as a virginal Christian. Well we all watched Laguna Beach and The Hills so we know that is not true (note the picture on this blog of her).

So Ryan Gosling, the guys from The Notebook, has some songs that he plays the guitar as well as sings? Needless to say its not great but you can check it out at Perez Hilton. http://perezhilton.com/page/3/

Funny is Sexy

Women rated funny guys as more intelligent than non funny guys. I honestly can say that if a guy doesn't make me laugh, see you later. Funny is very attractive and CNN took notice and a poll proved the fact. I'm not going to lie the study sounded a little iffy because they only asked 35 women but I still agree with it. Funny is attractive and makes things interesting.

Too much to blog about today. Since I have been busy I haven't updated myself on news so I was on CNN and saw something about Michael Vick working construction after he is released from prison. I'm going to start by saying money shouldn't matter but I saw his house when it all went down and it was huge. Being one of the best football players in the league and then getting in trouble for the dumbest and most disturbing dig fighting rings was crazy. Maybe construction work will tame him? Or prison did, we will see. Lets hope he doesn't make the same mistake twice.

Reviews

I LOVE the reviews that Rolling Stone features. Living in what I kindly refer to as BFE, I miss a lot on new music. Reading the reviews in the magazine tell me a lot about new artists and even about movies. I think the way they tell about the artist or band is honest, no bs from the review guys. I subscribe to the magazine so I like that you get a full page if not more of reviews.

Oh my weirdo

Since I have commented previously about having problems finding news that interests me enough to have some sort of opinion my professor gave me a link to some alternative news sources. As I am scrolling through http://obscurestore.com I run across a story that I honestly stopped dead in my skimming tracks to read, Car wash sex act humiliated Saginaw, judge tells defendant. So I read because well I think it's obviously why I read it. Anyway so this guy in Michigan was pleasuring himself at a car wash with the vacuum cleaner and now he says that he cant go anywhere without people staring at him and he cant find a job. A police officer caught him in the act so he got a ticket for indecent exposure. OK well I would stare at you too if you used a car vacuum cleaner to pleasure yourself. Like he honestly expects people to take him seriously when he used a PUBLIC vacuum (you know to use on your carpets or seat, not your penis) to try and get off. I was honestly astonished, not only have I never heard of someone trying this but in a public place. You were begging to get caught. Was the 75 cent suck job really worth it?

Oh and I would also like to point out in the article that they give his home address, as if he isn't already paranoid of people staring at him.

Weather

To understand this post I feel that it would be beneficial to have been to Nebraska.  Lucky for us we get to experience all 4 seasons, and sometimes all in one day.  For example on Sunday or Monday we had fires, rain, hail, tornadoes, and blizzards all in one day.  Sounds weird right? Well it is.  I was surprised to be experiencing tornado watches in the area only to soon find out some tornadoes actually developed around the Lincoln area.  It all happens in Nebraska in a days span. Pictured I have the tornado that went through this area last year. It really is crazy how much the weather changes around here, perfectly nice one day and snowing the next.

Twilight

I will start by saying I am not one of the obsessed girls or women that think they can marry Edward Cullen and be ok with the fact that he is a vampire. Um really? I just never understood the fascination with the books. I barely have time to read for my classes let alone read three or four books about fantasy and vampires. Well anyways I got to witness first hand the obsession with Twilight when the video was released. My roommate had been talking about it for weeks and went the the midnight party thing at Wal Mart so she could have it first. Since the majority of the girls I know have read the books and are addicted in some way to wanting to be with a vampire I found myself disinterested in the idea of watching or reading the books. Maybe it is the vampires plot to make the human race more accepting of them so they can all come and suck our blood? Well I will be the one with the wooden stake or silver bullet to save myself.

Oh and for the record I think the actor that plays Edward Cullen looks way better in Harry Potter being a cocky wizard.

Blogging

Like I have stated in a previous blog, I started this blog as part of a class assignment. To say I was unhappy about it was an understatement because I had a misconception of what a blog can be. I had only viewed the blogs that are about others lives and how it is so hard and depressing so I pretty much decided I wasn't being that annoying emo blogger that hates life and just wants to share that with the world. So I guess if that is what you are expecting of this blog, nice try it's never going to happen. As I started actually diving into the blogging I realized I actually enjoyed it. I really liked that I was getting my news information and then turning it into a blog. I learned a lot but that brings me to today where I have fallen off the blogging bandwagon I guess. I need to start blogging more obviously but I think it has to do with the news. I hear the same stuff almost everyday and I am sick of it and therefore never have anything to blog about.

Serial Rapes in Kansas

Dreaming of the white sandy beaches of Mexico...no wait too dangerous this time with the increased drug wars and crime against students and tourists. Alright, well what about Chicago? As mentioned in a previous blog I just came back and I had a lot of fun but remember to never ride the L after 10...learned my lesson the creepy, hard way. Alright well what about Vegas?...there goes all my money I guarentee already. Ok well that leaves the safety of my own home here, well maybe not.
K-State authorities as well as KU authorities are urging their students to take precautions if staying on campus during Spring Break. Thirteen rapes during breaks have been reported at the two universities and are believed to be committed by the same rapist. The rapes ocurred at off campus housing each time and all happened during breaks. Kansas isn't far away so it seems weird that something like that happens so close to home. When I was a freshman a man raped a number of women on this campus (not sure the total because weird that we were never given the details) but anyway during Spring Break? If you stay close to campus you generally have a good reason whether it be work or whatever, not to be a victim of rape in an area you find so comforting. Looks like I will be keeping an extrea eye open in case he crosses state lines. Why cant Spring Break be fun and carefree anymore?

Out of here!

Despite the economic downfall I am leaving the state for a brief getaway. It is getting really old trying to look for jobs and seeing that everything offered requires at least 5 years experience. Well I don't have that so I am getting out of town for a much needed break! So where to go that wont break the bank? CHICAGO! I am legitimately excited since I would love to move there soon but mainly just for a little something different than the monotony of school and work.So next blog will be about my fun times haha, get ready :)

Drug Use

I love the show Intervention. Learning about drugs and the "drug years" is something I find really interesting. Well if you haven't heard of intervention it is a show that follows an addict and then the family plans an intervention to get the drug user to rehab. One of the worst (but most interesting) episodes I ever saw was about a girl named Allison. She was addicting to huffing, which I honestly never saw as a bad addiction. I heard when I was younger about huffing into like a bag or something with spray paint but Allison huffed computer duster. So to my surprise after watching the episode of Intervention like months ago I hear about Ashley Page. She was huffing while driving and passed out. I seriously couldn't believe it, like when TV comes to life.

Parking

Our assignment was to blog about campus parking.

I am going to start by saying I don't have any problem with parking. I think we have a lot of parking available to students, you have to walk a block but not bad at all. I have heard a lot of students wanting to have a parking garage but then all that we will hear is how expensive it is. I live right off campus and so I walk to all classes and I walk further than most students who park in "BFE" have to walk. I just really don't have much to say about parking since I think the location is fine and it is affordable for a pass.

Let's be a little professional please

As I was browsing the news at CNN I saw a link to a page titled something along the lines of nurse takes photo of patient with sex toy. Um, weird. It turns out that two nurses in Wisconsin took pictures of a patients X-ray, he had some sort of sexual device lodged in his rectum. First of all really? Why would you ever think it appropriate to take a photo of a patient who obviously is in an embarrassing predicament? Then here is the real good part of the story...where does the nurse post the pictures? Facebook. She of course is denying the fact that she took pictures and posted them online.
So although I found this weird, it seemed familiar. Ok, well not that kind of familiar but I just recently saw an episode of Nip/Tuck where the surgeon and anaesthesiologist took a picture of a patient on their camera phone. Needless to say he found out that a certain part of his male anatomy was on film and was paid a hefty amount to refrain from suing. Now of course it is a television show but it does make a good point that consequences are severe.

Abuse?

If you ever pay attention to celebrity gossip I'm sure you have heard of the Rihanna and Chris Brown fight. If not Chris Brown allegedly ruffed up Rihanna after a pre-Grammy bash. The reports state that a man and a women were seen fighting after the man stopped his car and they got out. The women was able to identify her attacker (Brown) after HE FLED THE SCENE. Anyway the point is the names were not being released as well as any information that would link the two stars to the story but the names obviously were released and this picture comes courtesy of a hospital employee that doesn't care about doctor patient confidentiality.

Celebs

I honestly feel bad for Michael Phelps. If you don't know he was dropped from endorsements with Kelloggs among other companies for a PICTURE of him with a marijuana pipe to his lips. He was suspended from the US swim team for like 3 months. What else can he possible lose for allegedly smoking pot? I think it is ridiculous. Yes he is an amazing athlete who unfortunately was having a good time and was photographed while doing it. I feel his punishment is extremely harsh for a picture. They didn't even find him in possession of the drugs. I can understand he is a public figure and has to maintain his public image but what has happened is way too harsh.

Nebraska Issues

For a class assignment we were asked to look into three state issues.

The statewide smoking ban that goes into affect this year I think is an issue. An article from the Omaha World Herald states that an opting out of the ban plan was turned down. I think go big or go home, pretty much its a statewide thing or not so I am glad they shot it down.

In Iowa they may ditch the Electoral College. They have been developing the plan since 2000 when President Bush won the race while Al Gore won the popular vote. They would give their electoral college vote to the winner of the popular vote no matter which way Iowa voted.

Utility rates for Cornhusker Public Power District are being raised almost 8%. This will effect residence in East Central Nebraska. They are having to raise rates close to what NPPD charges.

Jobs

Sometimes I wish that I could see what the person looked like on the other side of the telephone and see their expression as they scream at me for ten minutes about something as trivial as their address. Or better yet I wish they could see my face as I sit there with my phone on mute laughing at their stupidity thinking I honestly care if they think I can do my job or not because obviously I am there for a reason. I am a customer service representative so I get to deal with all the problems or questions people may have with my company. I really do like my job and it has helped me to have a thick skin because people are crazy, honestly. I don't know you, you don't know me. I LOVE when someone thinks I have control over ever aspect of their order. Yes I control this company and like it so much I am going to answer your call...or not. All I ever want to do it mouth off to one of them and explain that they are irrational and acting like an idiot and if you really think I'm so dumb come to Nebraska and say it to my face.

P.S.--My new favorite thing is to vent on my blog. Just kidding but I have never said all that and it felt good. At least I didn't say it to them and therefore lose my job.

Internet

So as Facebook turned five this week I started thinking how I used the Internet before my Facebook addiction. It made me start remembering some of my favorite sites that I haven't visited in a while. The first one I thought of was Perez Hilton. I love his site, I think it is funny and he really goes with his opinion. I actually do like that because I'm sure he knows the people he blogs about so to write bad stuff about them and then see them, no thanks. Then I remember one of my all time favorite sites. Post Secret is one of the better sites I've been to in my short time on the Internet. The basis for the website is to mail in your deepest secret anonymously to this man and he puts them online. Some of the postcards that are posted are amazing, you can actually sense the feelings just looking at the postcard. It's great because everyone has a secret that you haven't told many people if at all anyone and I'm sure it would be therapeutic to send it in and get that idea or thought out of your head for a while. Seems liberating to me and I have thought about submitting a secret, the problem is working up the courage to let it go. Anyway the site is updated every Sunday with her secrets and I strongly suggest checking it out. I'm sure you will fall in love as well.

Sasha and Malia dolls

So if you weren't already aware of the fact that President Obama's two girls are named Sasha and Malia now you are and Ty Inc. made two dolls using their names. Needless to say the Obamas were not ok with that idea and let the company know who now is renaming the dolls. My favorite part of the story is that the company claimed that the dolls were not named after the girls, but instead the names were beautiful. Um yeah because I just pull the names Sasha and Malia out of thin air when I am naming a doll?
I also love that the company that is making the dolls also made Beanie Babies. I remember when Beanie Babies were selling for a lot of money and the dolls are on eBay for over $100 right now. I guess getting the dolls on tv worked out for them well in this case, since they are listed as a $10 doll. Oh and the dolls new names are Sweet Sydney and Marvelous Mariah.

Snuggie

So the economy is in a decline and what do people do about it? Buy Snuggies, the weirdest blanket/monk suit ever. I've seen the infommercial many times and every time i watch it I have to laugh. First of all the families all look like monks and if a family is all wearing a weird monk looking suit and they are all red it looks like some crazy cult. On CNN they have a video about the Snuggie and how ridiculous it is but stats say it is selling. You Tube mocks it, really funny but parental discretion is advised. I was at Walgreens and they even have the Snuggie, it doesn't come with the book light however but sick. No thanks on that idea. If you have a Snuggie can I please see it?

SNL

So I know this could be lame but I love Saturday Night Live. I think it is really funny and I am probably one of the few people that still enjoys it past middle school. One of my good friends is almost obsessed with the show because one of her good friends from high school works for Saturday Night Live. I find their digital shorts to be the funniest part of the show. I have to admit that when Will Ferrell and Jimmy Fallon left I was bummed because they were my favorites. I have a rather dry sense of humor so when Andy Samberg joined the cast I lost it, he is hilarious and produces the digital shorts. The first one I ever saw was D*** in a Box with Justin Timberlake. I don't think it could have been more random if they had tried. I strongly suggest going online and watching a few of the digital shorts, look at J*** in my pants as well as Beyonce's Single Ladies video. If you don't laugh something is wrong with you :)

PS-If you have not seen the best of Will Ferrell volume one check it out as soon as possible. You will be crying from laughing so hard.

Job Loss

Can I just start by saying how excited I am to graduate in May? Ok well looking at "Bloody Monday" (yea they named it that) and today with a combined total of layoffs almost 73, 000 people I am scared. Huge cutbacks are necessary for these companies to stay above water but it seems to be getting out of control. With our economy the way it is I don't feel the job market will be strong again for a least a few years. I remember first becoming concerned when the car companies were going under and asking for bailouts as well as laying off employees. Scares me and can't wait to watch it all unfold as May nears (hint that is my super sarcasm).

Breastfeeding on Facebook

So Facebook banned pictures of breastfeeding because it violates the terms of usage. Mothers are coming together and forming a group because they say breastfeeding is not obscene. Ok yes breastfeeding is natural and I think it is an important for a baby, but I don't need to see it. I HATE when people breasfeed in public, um it's called a bathroom. I don't like kids so I think my opinion may be based on that, but seriously I don't need or want to see you posting pictures of a child feeding off your body, gross. I agree with facebook and they state in the terms of usage that a full breast can not be exposed in pictures and I don't think any exception should be permitted. It's annoying when people try to push the envelope because social networking is a fairly new concept.

Razzies!

Yeah to the Razzies, my personal favorite award show to follow. This year Mike Meyers extremely boring movie "The Love Guru" took the cake as the worst movie of the year. I actually did see this movie and it wasn't very entertaining. All I kept hearing is that it was a typical Mike Meyers movie, plus it had Justin Timberlake so I didn't think it would be bad. Wrong! And I agree with the Razzie award committee or who ever selected the winners. In previous years stars like Haley Berry and Tom Green have put an ego aside and actually showed up to accept the award. Haley Berry brought her Oscar and held it in one hand and her Razzie in the other, I respect that. I wonder is Meyers will do the same? Either way it is entertaining to read and I generally agree with the Razzies.

Oh and for the record I think the worst movie ever created was "Kazaam" the movie with Shaq.

Not all celebs care about drunken elephants

I love when celebrities pick a charity and go nuts about it. I am glad that their social status can make a change in something, like because they are the spokesperson you want to help save the stray dogs or plant a tree. Ben Affleck was at the Sundance Film Festival this week talking about his new documentary Reporter which tells the story of journalist Nicholas Kristof’s journey to The Republic of Congo. Affleck even discussed the fact that celebs do have their little causes but the bigger picture is out their for journalists to report and uncover. I think its cool he throws it out there that people need to pay more attention to the big picture of major issues that are affecting the world, like Darfur and Rwanda. Maybe not all celebs are just picking random charities to promote but honestly care about the major issues? I’m game to find out.

Hello World

This is my blog for my JMC class. I plan to blog about random items, hence rando blog, so get excited!
